Suffering from Realness

for MASS MoCA

For this exhibition, fifteen U.S.-based multi-disciplinary artists addressed the complexity of the 21st century. Vincent Valdez & Adriana Corral’s Requiem fills the cover and red and blue is carried through the book—from the foil stamps to the endbands to the divider pages. A James Baldwin quote about a “more beautiful, and more terrible” America runs along the bookmark ribbon. Curator Denise Markonish took the title from a lyric by Kanye West. Her photo of him visiting MASS MoCA with James Turrell opens her essay. 7 x 9.5 inches, 224 pages.
