The People Are the Light

for Alisha B. Wormsley & Silver Eye Center for Photography

This book documents a month-long series of public art installations and workshops that Alisha B. Wormsley organized in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood. The artists include Dina Blackwell, Nisha Blackwell, Ayana Clarke, Yona Harvey, Robert Hodge, Joy KMT, Ayanah Moor, Bekezela Mguni, Staycee Pearl, Ricardo Robinson, Felicia Savage, Anqwenique Wingfield and Alisha herself. For the cover, I used a special cloth that is embedded with tiny pieces of glass so that it reflects light. The page edges were painted black to make the closed book feel like a solid object that only gives off “light”—through Alisha’s words and photographs—when it’s opened. Alisha found archival photos of Homestead and its people and we combined these with Instagram photos from the project for a “scrapbook” quality. Special thanks to Divya Rao Heffley and David Oresick. 8 x 9.75 inches, 120 pages.
