Pittsburgh Parking Lot Booths and Their Attendants

for Tom M. Johnson

For the past few years, Tom M. Johnson has taken photographs of Pittsburgh parking booths, identifying with the isolation of each person inside. He sees the photos as “symbiotic portraits—the attendant needs the booth for comfort, protection and function; the booth needs the attendant for significance.” I tried to reference this with the cover needing the first page to complete the book’s title. I relied on the internet, phone calls and a few personal visits to compile the number of spaces, hours of operation and rates shown opposite each photo (along with the booth’s GPS coordinates). 8.75 x 10.5 inches, 40 pages.
