One Brown Shoe

for Pittsburgh Center for the Arts

This box of cards serves as a printed complement to Lenka Clayton’s One Brown Shoe installation. She asked 100 married couples in twelve countries to each make a single brown shoe out of materials found around their homes. They were asked not to discuss the project with their partner and to make their shoe in secret. The shoes were revealed only after both were completed. Each card has a wife’s shoe on one side and her husband’s (or partner’s) shoe on the other so they can’t be seen at the same time. 100 5 x 3.5-inch cards and a seven-panel folded insert in a custom-made, foil-stamped box. Available for purchase here.
