John Riegert

self-initiated

This book documents the year-and-a-half process of a project in which I asked 252 Pittsburgh artists to each make a portrait of the same person: John Riegert. I took hundreds of photos of the individual artist visits and group sittings. Eric Lidji joined me every step of the way and wrote a 242,000-word essay. The book combines both elements along with photos of the exhibition opening by Joey Kennedy and photos of the individual portraits by Tom Little. My all-time favorite entry from John’s “Stack” is on the front cover. A complete artist list is on the other side. The name of each artist is underlined in the text and coupled with a bookmark placed on that particular page in their individual copy. A compilation of John’s legendary Facebook posts runs along the gutter. 8.5 x 11 inches, 700 pages.

Available here and at independent bookstores throughout Pittsburgh.
